Tower Garden Project

While we did not invent this idea, we are certainly making every effort to publish these plans as from years of experience have found that those who will learn the basic principles of building and maintaining this garden will eat quite well for a long time.

In South Africa, specifically in Limpopo, AWA has a partner who has a newly organized NPO to do just this project.  They are literally feeding thousands using this method and finding new ways to reach out to help people along the way.  They are Harry and Peggy Parham, African Harvest.  Please visit their website for more information on this great gift.  www.africanharvest.org

We have learned several tricks of the trade along the way, which will be added to this page as time goes on.  For now, here is a link to the basic plans. You will need Adobe Reader to view this document.  Let us know your questions, we are ready to help.

Just for our own food supply in Brighton Colorado, USA we decided to build our own tower gardens too.  Here are some pictures of our effort.  I will keep updating them as our growing season progresses.

MJ-Tower builder
Breaking ground.  MJ actually built a pretty nice tower for her first attempt.

Family work
Poles are level and perpendicular.  This gives a close to cylindrical shape for the tower, and makes it easier to sew the netting in your lap. Kaila is paying particular attention to stacking the stones.

Family builders
This is real family fun!

Madi
Somebody had to break those rocks and bricks.  Thanks Madi!

Michael sews
Sewing before the net goes on makes it much easier to fill.
